Introduction

My name is Heather Santoro; I am 18 years old and am from Cranston, Rhode Island. I’ve lived in Rhode Island my entire life. I'm currently a freshman here at URI and am majoring in Elementary Education, preferably first grade. I attended Cranston High School West and was involved in numerous activities. Since I was in middle school I was involved in student government. In the seventh grade I was elected Secretary of the student council and in eighth grade voted President. Going into high school I continued to stay involved but in class council, I served as President 9th & 10th grade, as a delegate in 11th grade, & was Vice President of my class senior year. Another extracurricular activity of mine is dancing. I love to dance. I’ve been dancing both competitively and for fun since I was three years old. I studied ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical and hip-hop. In high school I was a part of the precision dance team, Falconettes and was on the winter dance team for three years. My senior year I served as captain of the dance team. During high school I was involved in many leadership and mentoring programs such as Freshmen Mentors and Big Sisters as well as the Homecoming Committee where I served as a subcommittee head. Towards the end of middle school and during my first two years of high school I volunteered at a daycare, The Eddy Street Learning Center twice a week. I really enjoyed being around the younger children and from then decided that I wanted to definitely be a teacher.
